When Kalid Sheik Muhammed and the left wing moonbats chant that al-Qaeda is no different than the Revolutionary men who founded America, what do they say about the kids they kill? This is heartbreaking and absolutely revolting. Linked from Little Green Footballs:
Iraq Insurgents use children in car bombing
Insurgents in Iraq detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle with two children in the back seat after US soldiers let it through a Baghdad checkpoint over the weekend, a senior US military official said Tuesday. The vehicle was stopped at the checkpoint but was allowed through when soldiers saw the children in the back, said Major General Michael Barbero of the Pentagon’s Joint Staff.“Children in the back seat lowered suspicion. We let it move through. They parked the vehicle, and the adults ran out and detonated it with the children in the back,” Barbero said.
The general said it was the first time he had seen a report of insurgents using children in suicide bombings. But he said Al-Qaeda in Iraq is changing tactics in response to the tighter controls around the city.
A US defense official said the incident occurred on Sunday in Baghdad’s Adhamiyah district, a mixed neighborhood adjacent to Sadr City, which is predominantly Shiite.
After going through the checkpoint, the vehicle parked next to a market across the street from a school, said the official, who asked not to be identified.
“And the two adults were seen to get out of the vehicle, and run from the vehicle, and then followed by the detonation of the vehicle,” the official said.
“It killed the two children inside as well as three other civilians in the vicinity. So, a total of five killed, seven injured,” the official said.
Officials here said they did not know who the children were or their relationship to the two adults who fled the scene. They had no information about their ages or genders.
“The brutality and the ruthlessness of this enemy hasn’t changed,” said Barbero, deputy director of regional operations of the Joint Staff. “They are just interested in slaughtering Iraqi civilians, to be very honest.”
And this, I suppose, will make us cower and run. The Democrats, I’m sure, couldn’t be happier. They should have plenty of fodder for their failure meme - “See? The surge isn’t working”. Expect that line.
All it really means is what the unamed general said - AQ is changing tactics. This is their way of winning over hearts and minds.
Sick. Just absolutely sick.

In another scathing op/ed by Oliver North in the Washington Times, it appears that Showtime/Viacom has claimed ownership of the Smithsonian Museum artifacts. For some reason I had the mistaken impression they belonged to the American public - particularly since it’s about all of us.
It was easier in Hanoi
Last summer we went to Vietnam to shoot several “War Stories” episodes for Fox News Channel. As one might expect in a communist country where they take red tape very seriously, my producers spent weeks before our trip filling out forms, questionnaires and documents required by numerous government bureaucracies.
In the process, it became evident not all the folks in Hanoi were on the same sheet of music. But after several weeks of negotiation, we were able to accomplish all that we set out to do — and more, thanks to their cooperation. As it turns out, it was easier to deal with Ho Chi Minh’s proteges than our own Smithsonian Institution. At least the commies kept their word. Not so with the Smithsonian.
Fox News was trying to film footage of the “Enola Gay” for an episode of War Stories. After initially turning down the request, the Smithsonian backtracked and claimed they would work with the Fox News crew and actually were looking forward to it. Until the Fox News attorneys got the contract.
On Friday March 9, Fox News’ attorneys responded — noting that their proposed agreement would unfairly permit the Smithsonian to “own and control” every second of videotape shot by Fox News in their facility.
But if you thought that was a showstopper (I would have), the followup was even worse:
In a phone call at 5:45 p.m., a Smithsonian representative told our Fox News attorney and my executive producer that, “Your shoot would be a violation of our third-party agreement.” Though they never mentioned the name of the “third party” it’s now apparent: It is none other than Showtime/Viacom — the new “owner” of America’s history and heritage.
I thought the American public owned this historical treasure. So did Sen. Charles Grassley. Oliver North writes:
Last Wednesday, I called Sen. Charles Grassley, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, with oversight responsibility for the Smithsonian. He responded, “This raises serious concerns about any contracts that the Smithsonian may have entered into that limit people’s contact with America’s treasures. The American people have entrusted the Smithsonian to keep watch over some of our most valued possessions and no one should be locking out the public.”
The secret deal with Showtime/Viacom, gives exclusive control over images of historic artifacts in more than 150 Smithsonian facilities to a single company. This is an injustice to every citizen whose taxes support these magnificent museums. Worst of all, it’s an affront to the courage, perseverance and ingenuity of all who made our nation’s history worthy of preservation.
So, where’s the outrage?
It starts with knowing about it.

The Washington Post - in what I thought was a fair crowd assessment - had this to say on the Gathering of Eagles:
Over the weekend, several thousand military veterans and their supporters who back President Bush’s war effort in Iraq turned out from around the country for the “Gathering of Eagles,” so named by its organizers. They waved flags. They bore “spit shields.” They carried banners of support for Iraq’s fledgling government. In the current domestic political climate, that’s a story. It’s a countercultural story — counter-media narrative, counter-opinion poll and certainly counter-climate for much of today’s debate in Washington.
We can’t know the crowd numbers for certain, and the conflicting numbers and reports show it. Private police estimates obtained by this newspaper figured on 10,000 to 20,000 anti-war protesters answered by counterprotesters numbering in the thousands — “a large group of war supporters and military veterans waving American flags,” wrote our reporter. The Washington Post counted “several thousand vets” in car caravans and buses. The New York Times called them “an unusually large contingent” — although “large” for the NYT is “several hundred,” sourced to anti-war regulars. The counterprotesters claim that they numbered 30,000. And, as is the norm, the National Park Service won’t touch this one with a ten-foot pole. “The National Park Service never gives any estimate. It cannot be attributed to us. It is made up,” said spokesman Bill Line. Into the numbers do protesters of every stripe pour their hopes and desires.
Forget the numbers game for a moment. Consider the substance. These military-vet counterprotesters are now swimming directly against the tides of public opinion and against the Democratic congressional leadership. Convinced of withdrawal’s wrongness, they don’t care that the latest CNN poll numbers show that only 35 percent of respondents support the Iraq war. Their banners bore messages like these: “Peace Through Superior Firepower” and “Marked for Death if We Cut and Run Now,” over the once-famous, now-neglected photo of a purple-fingered Iraqi voter. Or the familiar and harder-edged statement: “Vietnam Vets Against Kerry.” These messages were wildly popular four years ago. Today they are decidedly countercultural.
If a man’s or woman’s political measure is to be taken by constancy and resolve in service of heartfelt conviction (and we certainly think so), then the actions of these veterans and their supporters — and countless others like them — speak for themselves. (bold is mine - bit)
Well said.

Here’s a write-up of the events that were viewed by one journalists at the Washington, DC anti-war demonstration failure. Sent to me by Bulldog who organized the bus trip I went on with Chapter 1 of Rolling Thunder from Smyrna, Tennessee.
A snippet:
Eventually, around 15,000 protestors arrived — appearing to me about the same number as attended the January anti-war rally..This must have been a severe disappointment to A.N.S.W.E.R., which had drawn upwards of 100,000 people to previous protests. The poor turnout at this year’s rallies can largely be attributed to a schism between A.N.S.W.E.R. and the other main anti-war coalition, United for Peace and Justice. The two groups used to sponsor these rallies together, but have recently ceased cooperating.
Their dispute stems from two factors. First, there was some squabbling over the amount of time given to each group’s speakers at past rallies — a surprising bit of selfishness from people who drive cars with bumper stickers proclaiming that everything they need to know they learned in kindergarten. Second, there was a disagreement over the Israel-Palestine issue. Apparently, A.N.S.W.E.R.’s position is that the Jews should be driven into the sea, while UPJ, being slightly more moderate, seeks to convince the Jews through peaceful dialogue to throw themselves in.
Sounds almost exactly like the dumocrats want us to do in Iraq. I’ll take a pass on that strategy.
And Rolling Thunder, Chapter 1 was there.

This post is to cover some of the other blogs who have stories up about the Gathering of Eagles.
One of the better posts is from Conservative Propaganda by Tantor. It’s a four-part post so catch all of it. He went to the moonbat side to get more pictures of their activities. He had more stomach for that than I did. In Part 4, there’s some pics of one of the moonbats taking a GOE poster away from someone and then ripping her American flag apart. That’ll get your blood pressure up.
Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive has a nice post up (actually, several) that makes a good point about one particular item from a commenter - the trash. Several in our group noticed the same thing.
Another thing I noticed. The hippie, anti-war, love-mother-earth, peta, answer, code pinkos group left litter and trash everywhere. When they left, their AO was TRASHED!! On the other hand, the GoE people conducted a police-call and left their area clean. How ironic is that?
Michelle Malkin has a great post and a must see video at her site.
Media Lies has some good points about the lack of media coverage.
A Soldiers Perspective has a good post up. Here’s Part two. He also notes the lack of media coverage on the GOE side - even has a picture of the FOX News truck sitting idly next to the vacant lot where none of the protesters were while the GOE group had a field full of supporters - and flags.

And of course you’ll want to check out Old War Dogs - the guys that brought you the Gathering of Eagles.
And here’s a great link to an interview with Michelle Malkin on Bill O’Reilly talking about the GOE.
Here’s a link so you can view the photos I took.
I’ll make a post about the ride over later.
