That appeasement thingy

Back a few weeks ago, our new narcissistic-in-charge POTUS tried to “reach out” to Iran, despite the fact that -

“Last month, the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security released a report saying that Iran has reached “nuclear weapons breakout capability” — it has enough uranium to make a nuclear bomb.”

OK, so maybe he missed that report. He’s new and all that. Of course, back at the inauguration festivities, the One had euphorically pronounced a change in policy:

Obama has signaled a willingness to speak directly with Iran about its nuclear program and hostility toward Israel, a key U.S. ally. At his inauguration, the president said his administration would reach out to rival states, declaring “we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.”

But in trying to capture the attention of an Islamic republic, which has repeatedly called for the extermination of Israel and the destruction of the United States, the Messiah vainly attempts leadership:

“The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations. You have that right, but it comes with real responsibilities. And that place cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of the Iranian people and civilization.”

Iran’s response was…, well…, less than excited. The Iranian fist is still quite clenched. Although the New York Times failed to take note of the key section of Khamenei’s response to the olive branch weakness, The Corner on NRO noted Khamenei’s response:

Have you changed anything but your words? If your enmity against the Iranian nation has truly ended, have you released Iranian assets? Have you removed sanctions? Have you ended your propaganda warfare? Have you ended your unconditional support for the Zionist regime…? Changing rhetoric must not be followed by unchanged intentions.

Apologize, apologize, yada, yada. Apparently that olive branch thingy is a one way street with Iran.

And even more Islamic fist clenching in Afghanistan and Pakistan as obambi offers “honorable reconciliation”:

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an international conference on Afghanistan on Tuesday that those members of the Taliban who abandoned extremism must be granted an “honorable form of reconciliation.”

Predictably, the Taliban responds with almost a laugh:

Taliban insurgents reject a U.S. offer of “honorable reconciliation,” a top spokesman said on Wednesday, calling it a “lunatic idea” and saying the only way to end the war was to withdraw foreign troops.
“This matter was also raised in the past,” said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, referring to comments last month by Obama, who spoke of reaching out to moderate Taliban.

“They have to go and find the moderate Taliban, their leader and speak to them. This is a lunatic idea,” Mujahid said by telephone from an unknown location (usually a cave).

Funny, I was thinking the same thing - where is there a “moderate” Taliban? Doesn’t the word itself (Taliban) pretty much define the environment as radical?

I’m impressed that the One has continued the Bush program of blowing up every Taliban and al Qaeda big wig they can find in the Afghanistan theater. He’s even expanded the program to include some provinces outside of the Waziristan mountainous regions - which should help to keep our country safer. As Bill Roggio of the Long War Journal has noted, (paraphrased) “When you kill the first or even the second guy in charge, the others move up. But when you kill one through ten in importance, they have to scramble to keep the organization going.” That’s what the US has intended since early in 2008 as the total count of Predator whacks in Pakistan indicates - 36 recorded strikes in 2008 while there were only 10 in 2006 and 2007 combined. While it started on Bush’s watch, it seems to be one of the very few things obambi has supported from that administration. I’m surprised but pleased.

Then there’s the obvious political side. This is the part that Mr. Messiah won’t be honest about:

Strong indigenous security forces are a key to success in counter-insurgency, U.S. military doctrine states, and Obama said his new strategy would increase efforts to train Afghan forces and bring the Afghan army and police up to strength by 2011.

That date also coincides with the time by which, diplomats say, the Obama administration is likely to want to see results in Afghanistan — a year before the next U.S. presidential election.

The Taliban meanwhile, do not have to win the war, analysts say. All they have to do is survive and wait for their opponents to lose the will to keep fighting.

Aww geez… what if that goal is missed? Will obambi lose the election? Or will his fellow left wing socialists raise the white flag and shout “surrender” loudly? Again.

In his quest to develop a “new” America - an appeasing, apologetic, ‘ we’re sorry for existing ‘ excuse for a democratic republic - the Messiah is 0 for 2. The Islamists have now shut him out twice. I keep recalling the news item from a Mark Steyn article in which he interviewed Hussein Massawi, a former Hezbollah leader. “We are not fighting,” Mr. Masawi said “so that you will offer us something. We are fighting to eliminate you.” It’s the creed of the whole Muslim Brotherhood movement from al Qaeda to the Taliban to Iran. But the One misses that. Not unexpectedly, the rest of us don’t.

He’s doing better with the NCAA trying to force them to have a playoff in football.

White People with Blue Eyes

How exactly did this world economic crisis happen? What happened in the US might be explainable.

But why is the whole world getting wretched?

Then I read this and everything made sense.

The global financial crisis was caused by “white people with blue eyes”, says Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Standing next to visiting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at a news conference in Brasilia, Silva harshly criticised the world’s top economies, blaming them for sparking the crisis.

It was caused by “white people with blue eyes” and the world’s poorest nations should not have to pay for a crisis they did not create, he said.

Now all we have to do is find all the white blue-eyed people and kick their ass.

Makes sense.

Phew! I’m glad I got brown eyes. I’m almost positive that has saved me from more wretchedness.

How far again is Brazil from Chavez in Venezuela?

“Reallocation” and the Messiah

We’ve all heard of the desire of “The One” to reallocate money. Not his money, ours. It’s caused quite a stir if you haven’t been paying attention. But today in The Washington Times, an editorial points out that obambi’s reallocation exercises have gone over a cliff. Now he has transferred $2 million from the program that trained pilots to carry firearms on flights. This has effectively stalled out the program.

Where has he transeferred the money to? Why “…to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.” What? What are we “field inspecting” pilots for? As the Times points out, the trained Airline Pilots (called Federal Flight Deck Officers)… “are reported to have the best behavior of any federal law enforcement agency. There are no cases where any of them has improperly brandished or used a gun.”

But lets kill a program where the end results are:

  • No air flights have been hijacked since it started
  • No Federal Flight Deck Officer has ever transgressed any rule of this agency.
  • Other than the training, there is no cost to the federal government. The pilots are not paid to carry weapons. They do it free of charge.
  • About 70% of major airline carrier pilots have a military background (exactly what federal law enforcement agencies look for)
  • Armed marshals only cover about 3% of flights out of Washington DC airports.  Sky marshals are costly and quit more often than other law-enforcement officers.

And somehow all this is considered unworthy by The One. So he decides to can it.

I remember the last time dumocrats got this involved with US security. It was when Clinton put up all those walls between the CIA/FBI/NSA. He was afraid of “losing our rights” and got 9/11 instead.

This administration is taking a more proactive approach. Clinton was a dumb redneck but now we have an intelligent idiot.

This failure will be much more “classical”.

Details of Korea’s Launch

A website called “Closing Velocity” has the details of the expected launch and flight path of North Korea’s imminent ballistic missile sandbox toy:

In a letter to ICAO earlier this week, the North said the launch would take place between April 4-8 and between 11:00 a.m. and 4.p.m. (KST), it added.

Of the two potential danger areas identified, one is in waters close to Japan’s northeastern area and the other is in the East Sea, according to a map released by ICAO. The map appears to show that if successful, a multi-stage rocket would fly over Japan after shedding its first booster in the East Sea.

This is where it gets interesting. John McKittrick’s post maps the proposed missile path - and it is on a direct line to Hawaii.

Connecting the dots between the launch site (orange triangle) and the two danger zones where the two stages will splash (red triangles), we can see where the missle could head — again, according to the North Koreans themselves:

  • They indeed plan to overfly Japan, shedding the first booster in the Sea of Japan.
  • Depending on the range of the missile, the trajectory is making a bee-line for Hawaii.

Could it get there? Who knows. But, according to McKittrick, North Korea recently tested an ICBM engine that could put California in its sight:

Could it actually reach Hawaii? Who knows … but the North Koreans did recently test an ICBM engine that would put California in reach. Whether that engine will power this missile is unknown.

Of course there is now a Fox News report that Japan can shoot down the missile if it is launched.

In Tokyo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura told North Korea to abandon the launch and said Japan was ready to defend itself.

“Legally speaking, if this object falls toward Japan, we can shoot it down for safety reasons,” he said.

Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada said Japan would “deal with anything that is flying toward us. We are preparing for any kind of emergency.”

One commenter noted that “President Training Wheels will use his powers of diplomacy to make everything better. Look at what a wonderful job he has done so far with the UK and Brazil.”

True, but it may be worse than that. The UK and Brazil aren’t even aiming missiles at us. And the Messiah hasn’t been “in the fire” yet on Foreign Policy. I expect him to come out of this one about medium rare.

Considering Bernie Madoff a Terrorist

Dennis Lormel at The Counterterrorism Blog has an interesting post up that describes a curious vacancy in Bernie Madoff’s plan - an exit strategy.

As a former FBI Agent, with extensive investigative experience in sophisticated fraud and financial crime schemes, I was intrigued by a statement Madoff made to the court during his pleading. He said “… and as the years went by, I realized my arrest and this day would inevitably come.” Someone needs to ask Madoff the question “at what point in time did you realize that your scheme would be detected?” How many years ago did Madoff reach his conclusion? In my experience, at that point in time, Madoff began planning his exit strategy.

Lormel goes on to note that Madoff’s exit strategy was actually missing:

Big time fraudsters usually theorize that their schemes have a certain shelf life, and at some point, their fraud will be detected. Therefore, many of these fraudsters make contingency plans and devise exit strategies. In many cases, that would mean fleeing the U.S. and relocating to a safe haven such as Robert Vesco and Marc Rich did. Interestingly, Madoff did not. So what was his exit strategy?

The scariest note that Lormel makes mention of is the Annual Threat Assessment that was delivered to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence:

On February 12, 2009, Director of National Security (DNI), Dennis C. Blair, testified before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. DNI Blair provided the Committee with the Annual Threat Assessment of the Intelligence Community. The first sentence of the assessment states:

“The primary near-term security concern of the United States (U.S.) is the global economic crisis and its geopolitical implications.”

This was the first time in six years that terrorism was not listed as the primary threat to the country. Fraud and other criminal activity resulting in the laundering of illicit funds have always been considered a threat to our national economy. The current financial crisis was primarily driven by the frightful combination of fraud, greed and arrogance. The magnitude of that fraud, greed and arrogance has clearly shaken not only our national economy but the global economy as well. In so doing, as noted by DNI Blair, the resulting international instability created by the financial crisis has become the most significant threat to our national security.

It was good to see that Lormel considers the actions of Madoff to be “economic terrorism” and should be harshly punished - particularly in seizing his assets. Lormel did not have kind words for the greed of other business executives who have been fraudulent in this economic meltdown - calling them “despicable”.

The general concensus, from people I have had conversations with, is that those business executives who have been grinding the public trust into dust should all be in jail. I agree. And our Congress wants to keep bailing them out. As though the money arrogant and greedy executives lost will ever come back.

And the bank presidents, who are taking most of the blame from the street, get million dollar pay raises. Or coyly tell the stock holders they will forego their “incentive” pay, yet take grandiose stock options for the same amount.

There hasn’t been honor or statesmanship in Washington for years. But to dive into an empty pool as this current Congress has is embarrassing. They seem to think, somehow, that we will change our minds about their behavior and the single digit approval rating they collectively have will climb.

They couldn’t be father from the truth or more disconnected from their constituents.

Taliban buffoonery

Pakistan and the Taliban have decided that they will fight together if India starts a war with Pakistan due to the aforementioned Islamic country’s imcompetence over the Mumbai attacks. Apparently, the Pakistan Army and the blood sucking thrillers of the Taliban no longer see a problem fighting together against the evil Indian empire.

In what could be construed as the most disingenous position ever stated by Pakistan AND the Taliban:

A senior Pakistani military official called Baitullah and Swat Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah “patriots” and said the military and the Taliban are clashing due to “some misunderstandings.”

“We have no big issues with the militants in FATA [the Federally Administered Tribal Areas],” the official said. “We have only some misunderstandings with Baitullah and Fazlullah. These misunderstandings could be removed through dialogue.”

Well, that’s a relief. It’s only a “misunderstanding” - by “patriots”.  Thank goodness there’s that obambi model dialogue thingy working.

If that wasn’t so scary it would be funny.

Pakistan. What a pathetic excuse for a country. If there’s any kind of contest being held for the most idiotic insecurity in the world, I’d tender the name “Pakistan”.

And don’t forget - they have nuclear weapons. Somehow I feel uncomfortable.

Bill Roggio has a breakdown of the latest buffoonery in our GWOT “ally”.

“Yawn…” - they’re protesting. Again

Iran and Pakistan are currently bitching and moaning about the cartoons that appeared in a Swedish paper that make Mohammed look like the dog he is.

Iran summoned a Swedish diplomat to its foreign ministry on Monday to protest against a cartoon in a Swedish newspaper depicting the head of Prophet Muhammad on a dog’s body, Sweden’s foreign ministry said.

“Gunilla von Bahr, Sweden’s charge d’affaires, was summoned to the Iranian foreign ministry today where she received a protest from the Iranian government,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Björkander told AFP.

The Iranian government told Von Bahr the cartoon was “offensive to Prophet Muhammad,” Björkander said, refusing to disclose any further details of the meeting.

The cartoon was drawn by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, whose series of drawings of the prophet as a dog have sparked a controversy in Sweden. Several art galleries refused to display the sketches amid fears of angry reactions from Muslims.

The Orebro local newspaper Nerikes Allehanda published one of the drawings on August 18 to illustrate an editorial on self-censorship and freedom of religion.

So far, Sweden and the newspaper are standing firm. We’ll see.

Nerikes Allehanda editor-in-chief Ulf Johansson met with Lamhamdi but refused to apologize for the cartoon, which was part of an Aug. 19 editorial criticizing several Swedish art galleries for refusing to display a series of prophet drawings  by Vilks.

“They say they are offended and I regret that, because our purpose was not to offend anyone,” Johansson told The Associated Press. “But they are asking for an apology and a promise that I never again publish a similar image … and that I cannot do.”

Naturally, if you cover the Virgin Mary in a burqa and stick a towel on the head of Jesus, that’s no problem for Islam as Neptunus Lex points out:

Thousands of angry Christians poured into their businesses Thursday morning, as word leaked out about an Australian art show featuring a holographic image of Jesus morphing into Osama bin Laden. Hundreds of people went uninjured and no one was killed, while shops throughout the Christian world opened their doors, citing a lack of security concerns. Hundreds of Australian flags went untorched while Australian beer was poured into glasses in pubs on the eerily quiet streets of Christendom.

Ah yes, all those Christian riots… I remember the last one was about, uhhhh, well….

Actually, I don’t recall any Christian riots. And in Austrailia, where burqa Mary and Osama Jesus are depicted as art, there didn’t seem to be any reported threats of death to non-Christians because of it.

Funny, that.

Then again, it just makes me sleepy to hear about “another” insult to Islam.

**yawn**

CAIR, the ISNA, and how much to believe

The ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) is having a “conference” this weekend and it has caused several lawmakers to criticize the Justice Department for supporting this conference by participating in it:

Republican lawmakers are urging the Justice Department not to participate in a convention held by the Islamic Society of North America — a group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in an ongoing terrorism-financing case.

In a letter to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, Reps. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Sue Myrick of North Carolina called the Justice Department’s involvement a “grave mistake.”

“In light of the threat that our nation is currently facing from radical jihadists, and because of the president’s commitment to fighting the war on terror on all fronts, we believe it is a grave mistake to provide legitimacy to an organization with extremist origins, leadership and a radical agenda,” the lawmakers said.

Of course, the ISNA is a classical front group for the Muslim Brotherhood and also an unidicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial now in progress. But the ISNA and CAIR are brothers of the same family whose funding is predominantly from two countries - Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In another article which simply recites the facts, Investor’s Business Daily (not exactly the most “politically motivated” publication one could find for this) indicates the deep involvement of CAIR and ISNA sources to Mecca:

But many of the things CAIR’s leaders claim and what we later learn from the factual record don’t square.

For instance, they’ve claimed that they get no foreign support and that their funding comes from local dues. In fact, the bulk of their support comes from two Arab countries tied to 9/11 - Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

They’ve claimed that the size of the Muslim population in America is 7 million. In fact, it’s closer to 2 million.

They’ve claimed that they’re mainstream American patriots, when in fact they’ve told Muslim audiences that they want the Quran to replace the Constitution as the “highest authority in America.”

They’ve also claimed that they don’t support terrorism, even as three senior employees have been jailed in terror-related cases.

Yea, well, actions speak louder than words. And words are all about the game that CAIR and the ISNA are playing. Their actions are coming under more and more scrutiny by the Justice Department and by Americans. From the same article comes, again, simple facts:

For the first time, evidence in a major federal terror case puts CAIR’s current executive director — Nihad Awad — at a Philadelphia meeting of alleged Hamas leaders that was secretly recorded by the FBI.

After the Associated Press last week reported the bombshell, CAIR denied claims of ties to Hamas. “That’s one of those urban legends about CAIR,” said Parvez Ahmed, CAIR’s chairman. “It’s fed by the right-wing, pro-Israeli blogosphere.”

In fact, the evidence was revealed by an FBI agent who testified at the terror-financing trial under way in Dallas.

And that ISNA conference that legislators don’t want the Justice Department to support this weekend? Guess who the keynote speaker is? Keith Ellison - America’s Muslim Congressman. From Little Green Footballs:

As we noted yesterday, several Republican lawmakers have called on the Justice Department not to participate in a conference held this weekend by the Islamic Society of North America—a Muslim Brotherhood front group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terror trial.

Despite those troubling connections, Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison will be a keynote speaker at the conference and will also participate in a panel discussion featuring Siraj Wahhaj—an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, who has openly expressed a desire to see the US government replaced by a caliphate.

From the ISNA program (available at their site) for Saturday, September 1, 2007:

12:15-2:30 p.m. Community Service Recognition Luncheon — Grand Ballroom-Hyatt Regency

The Mahboob Khan Community Service Award will be presented to a prominent community leader for his/her outstanding service to the Muslim community in North America. Check at the ISNA booth in the bazaar for tickets. (Tickets are $200, if seats are still available).

Keynote Speaker: U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison

That’s not all - Ellison was to be the “Grand Marshall” of the parade in New York for “American Muslim Day”:

According to one blog written by Ellison supporter Abdi Aynte, the Congressman’s office claims that he “declined the offer to be the grand marshal a long time ago because he has other obligations in the district.” Yet a flyer announcing Ellison as Grand Marshal of this year’s parade was placed on MFA’s website just last week. The flyer contains a picture of Ellison and reads, “22nd American Muslim Day Parade… Grand Marshall Congressman Keith Ellison and other National Muslim Leaders.”

The change of content on the MFA site has fueled speculation that the Congressman had cancelled his appearance due to recent reports about the extremism of individuals and groups that are or have been associated with the parade. Past Marshals of the parade have been found to be Islamist radicals. They include unindicted co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Siraj Wahhaj, and accused death squad leader of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide, Ashrafuzzaman Khan. As well, many of the organizations co-sponsoring the parade have various ties to militant Islamic groups.

But there’s nothing to worry about here. As CAIR notes - it’s just a support group for Muslims. And for all that support, they get to train their kids in madrassas - on US public tax dollars. Michelle Malkin has that.

Seems that you can tell exactly when CAIR and the ISNA want to bash the truth.

 Whenever they open their mouth.

Obama is toast

COBdanny at Crotchety Old Bastard has an excellent slap down of O’Bama’s latest John Kerry act-alike performance.

Obama:

“Now you have narco drug lords who are helping to finance the Taliban, so we’ve got to get the job done there, and that requires us to have enough troops that we are not just air raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there.”

COBdanny:

Talk about your Winter Soldier.  Barack Obama is a disgrace and a very small man playing on a big field.  Honestly, without the pigmentation of his skin, would this buffoon have raised a single dollar? What logical policy does he support other than being an attractive black man?

What foreign policy does he endorse other than bombing allies? The total contempt of American fighting forces is just buttressed by this completely useless black man.

Of course he is in good company among Democrats:

Durbin- Our soldiers run gulags like “Nazi death camps, the Soviet gulag and the “Killing Fields” of Pol Pot…”
Murtha- Our Marines killed civilians “in cold blood”
Kerry- Our soldiers “personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals…”
Kerry- Our soldiers are stupid and lazy.
etc.

Well said.

In Sandy Eggo, Firefighters have rights too

Sheesh. Imagine. How does a firefighter somehow feel “proud” of this?

In 28 years of responding to fires and saving lives, Fire Capt. John Ghiotto of the San Diego Fire Department never thought his job would require him to attend a Gay Pride parade.

“I’ve dealt with finding bodies in burning buildings, traffic accidents with kids, but I’ve never been so stressed out before until this incident,” Ghiotto told FOXNews.com in an exclusive interview.

Ghiotto and three other firefighters filed a sexual harassment complaint against the city’s fire department last week after being forced to attend the parade in uniform despite objections they made to superiors.

“Sexual Harassment?” This is more like forcing somebody to agree with a lifestyle most of us want no part of. The next thing Sandy Eggo will do is force folks to stand side by side with La Raza as they raise the American Flag upside down and sing the National Anthem in Spanish.

Oh - now it makes sense -

San Diego fire chief Tracy Jarman, an open lesbian, said she apologized to the men, according to a statement. Jarman said any kind of sexual harassment is “unacceptable, and is never tolerated” in the department.

I suspect that she’ll try to spin this like it wasn’t “really” sexual harassment. That’s be good. It’s “really” more like complete and utter stupidity.

These guys attended, in spite of their absolute disagreement with it, just so they could keep their jobs. That’s harassment alright - though attaching the word “sexual” to it kinda makes me think it’s just a process they can use. There’s no substitute for “sexual” - like obnoxious, moronic, insulting harassment. It’s just “sexual”. Can’t sue the “lesbian” Fire Chief for being stupid.

I was a firefighter for nearly 15 years. A volunteer. So was nearly all of the rest of our small town department. I can see the mayor or a fire chief saying we “have” to do something we find completely immoral and repugnant. There would be no fire department after that. All because an “in-your-face” Gay Pride parade crap that wants to force its own perverted morality on people who have no desire to take part.

In hindsight, I see no difference in being forced to participate in this and being intimidated by CAIR to not report suspected terrorist type behavior. This multicultural acceptance has bubbled up for what it is - a complete crock of bullshit.

FISA breathing for 6 more months

Dafydd over at Big Lizards has an excellent take on the FISA legislation the dumocrats caved to - finally - for the next six months. After which the White House will have to do it all over again.

At last, Democrats in both chambers of Congress arrived at the same conclusion, which they enacted and sent on to the president for signature: They caved to the Bush plan to reform the nearly three decade old FISA, thus betraying the MoveOn, George Soros, Daily Kos wing of the Democratic Party (they’ve been flying on one wing for seven years now).

But then, in an agony of cleverness, they set things up so their surrender to the Bush plan will only last six months… at which point they’ll have to go through the entire nightmare all over again, navigating the narrow passage between the six-headed snake and the greedy whirlpool, to finally arrive right back to the same bill they just approved six months down the road (with or without yet another sunset clause).

Memo to self - dumocrats have no idea what National Security is. All this so that our government can monitor calls from a foreigner likely to be a terrorist to another foreigner (who may also be a terrorist).

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Sheesh.

The CAIR Intimidation reality

Unindicted co-conspirator CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) is doing their best to intimidate anyone and everyone who may criticize or repudiate the 7th Century form of Islamic beliefs. CAIR has ignored the mainstream mood of Americans on suing the “John Does” in the “Flying Imams” case. The Becket Fund,  a non-profit legal fund defending the “John Doe’s” filed an amicus brief in Minnesota District Court. The meat & potatoes of that brief are:

”These citizens attempted to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their fellow passengers. For this, they are dragged into federal court and threatened with humiliation, expense, and liability,” the papers said. “This harassment is nothing less than legal terrorism — an attempt to change public behavior by threatening to impoverish and destroy at random the lives of those whom plaintiffs see as their enemies. These claims should not be entertained.”

Naturally, CAIR feels that to avoid any suggestion of Islamophobia, they just want to have them say, in court, that they meant no harm:

Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), said he “does not think this legislation would prevent that lawsuit because there is a good faith provision in the legislation.”

“And to determine whether the reports are made in good faith, you might still have to ask them in a court of law,” Mr. Hooper said on MSNBC.

Now the CAIR Intimidation Campaign of 2007 rolls on as they also threaten the Young Americans Foundation (YAF). The YAF has planned a conference to include Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch as a speaker on their program. Spencer is scheduled to speak at George Washington University as part of YAF’s annual National Conservative Student Conference.

In response, CAIR’s lawyer pre-threatened the YAF:

This same organization, CAIR, is demanding that YAF either withdraw its invitation to Spencer or take alternative steps to prevent any false remarks from being made.

A letter from Joseph Sandler, an attorney representing CAIR, addressed to YAF President Ron Robinson, calls upon YAF officials to make a decision before “close of business” Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The letter:

CAIR letter

CAIR doesn’t even want anyone to have a platform for criticizing Islamic intolerance.

Hot Air also notes the response of the YAF:

Jason Mattera, spokesman for YAF, responded to the CAIR complaint:

“CAIR can go to Hell and they can take their 72 virgins with them.”

My kind of guy.

Hot Air also notes that CAIR’s attorney, Joseph Sandler, has impeccable credentials - as a Democrat:

From February 1993 until May 1998, Mr. Sandler served on the staff of the DNC as general counsel. He continues to serve in that position through his law firm.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. :)
