Buck Creek Station

Yea, I’m Bragging…

My hometown (Helena, Alabama) is Number 91 on the Top 100 Places to Live - in the whole country. At least according to CNN Money Magazine.

I do have to wonder about some of the statistics, however. Like how do they know the average Body Mass Index is 27 for Helena residents? Not sure if I want the world to know that one. I don’t know my own body mass - though I’m sure it’s more than 27.

And I think some of our erstwhile residents would argue (some sucessfully) on the “Average commute time to work = 30.1 minutes”. Though, in all fairness, 21.5% of residents have a commute longer than 45 minutes (though there’s no indication of how much longer).

There’s another number I’ll have to check - supposedly there are 54 golf courses within 30 miles of Helena. Maybe. I’ve played at most of them - but I don’t know about “54″.

Anyway, it’s a proud and appreciative day for us who live here. I’ve been here since December of 1981 and have enjoyed every year. There volunteer’s who keep this community charged up and tight knit grow a little every year. It’s been a great ride.

UPDATE: I did notice one glaring difference between the winner (Middleton, WI) and Helena, Al. Middelton has 25 Ski Resorts within 30 miles. Helena has an N/A here - more aptly meaning “none”. But then the winters in Middleton are - well - damn colder.

And longer. Really longer.

And don’t forget the really colder thingy.
